Babe's Three Yard Adjustable Powered Skein Winder/Swift Assemble Instruction
With motor hooked up it is a skein winder.
With the motor disconnected it can be used as a swift.
Take parts out of the box and put on the floor.
Put base in front of you with the tee to the back.
Put the main shaft into the motor mount tee.
Decide how high you want the skein winder to be. There are some shorter pieces of 1-1/4" pipe to use to get it to the height you want. Put the piece you decide on in the tee of the base.
Put the motor mount tee on the piece you just added.
The arms are marked A B C D. Match the arms with the letter in the cross fitting in install them in the cross fitting.
Make sure they all arms line up and screw in the screws in the cross. Important because the arms could fly off. If you are always going to keep this in the same place you could superglue the arms in but wait until you have it working properly.
OIL BOTH OF THE CROSS WHERE IT CONNECTS WITH THE AXLE.
This SW uses the square wheel technology and does not have a rim but uses the hooks on the back of the arms. Put the motor on the motor mount tube and put the drive band on the cup hooks and the pulley of the motor.
Plug the foot controller into the motor and the the plug into the 110 volt outlet. Test slowly to be sure it is working correctly. The SW turns to the right.
Set the counter to 0 and you are ready to go. Counter no longer proviced. Go slow until you get used to how it works. The counter only counts revolutions so you will have to calculate what you want it to count to.
The arms have four settings - 50" - 1-2/3 yards (60") - 2 yards - 3 yards. You set what you want by moving the tees. One arm has adjusting holes for using as a swift. Measure around the arms to make sure you have them set correctly to produce the size skein you want.
After you have made your skein just slide back one of the tees and you will be able to lift your skein off.
If you want to use as a swift just take the drive band off. Set arms to approximate size of skein. Loosen the tee on the arm which has the adjusting hole. hang on the skein and slide the tee out to tighten the skein and insert the bolt to hold the tee.
The cup hooks on the base are for helping you to hold the yarn. These might be of no value for your use. You can move them to suit your needs or add more.
A skeining or swifting we will go. Have fun.
