Babe's Bulky Electric with Delta Flyer
Assembly Instructions
Take parts out of box and put on the floor. Be sure there are no parts still wrapped.
Put base on a table or put the legs on.
Put on the maiden that holds the flyer and put the screw in at the base.
Put the bobbin on the flyer and oil each end where it turns on the flyer, followed by the whorl with the drive pin sticking into the bobbin. Oil where it turns
Insert flyer into the maiden and oil the maiden bearing where it turns. The leather brake should go above the flyer. Put on the metal collar. Put the bolt through the holes and put on the wing nut. Oil the holes where the flyer turns.
Take the motor mount and clamp it on the frame so the pulley will line up with the whorl, on the right side is for spinning to the right and on the left side for plying.
Put on Drive Band and line up the whorl, motor pulley and drive band by sliding the motor one way or the other.
Put leader on the Babe Aid a 3/8" dot of hook Velcro and turn the bobbin to the right a couple of times so the leader overlaps the Babe Aid. Put the leader through the key ring then through the second key ring if you are going to spin small. If it over twists you might just forget using the second key ring. Then put the leader through the Delta.
Warning it has a lot of pull and it will take you awhile to get adjusted in how you spin using a Delta.
I found I started with the brake off and had to spin holding onto the twist with the right hand and drafting back with the left hand. This is where you develop your technique for spinning.
If you want to spin really bulky like finger thick do not use the Delta just use your hand as Delta with the right hand centered in front of the flyer holding onto the twist and letting the roving slide through your hand when you have enough twist in the yarn. Works cool.
Relax and have fun spinning fibers into yarn.
Oil is important. Where things turn be sure to oil and keep the leather brake oiled.
